CUBO list of the best restaurants in Ljubljana
One of the questions we often get is „Which restaurants in Ljubljana do you recommend?“, so we decided to create a list of the best restaurants according to our choice and explain why we absolutely love them. Slovenian cuisine is affected a lot by Austrian, Mediterranean and Balkan gastronomy, so it represents a delicious mix that will satisfy even the most demanding gourmands. We often joke and say that Slovenia doesn’t have much besides amazing food and wine, but who needs more than that?
1. Atelje
The only Micheline star in the city is best described with the words “simple, but refined”. Although the hotel CUBO guests usually expect a very formal atmosphere when we mention Atelje, they are surprised by the relaxing atmosphere of this small restaurant located in the heart of the city centre, behind the pink Franciscan Church. Jorg Zupan, an amazing young chef, combined the experience he gained through working for different restaurants with his creative personality to create an urban place which locals absolutely love. What we especially like about Atelje is that meals are not pretentious, but rather the right combination of simplicity and courage, with a bit of funkiness. For dinner, guests can enjoy the 7 and 9-course gourmand magic, adjusted to the season and inspiration of the chef. If you decide for the 9-course menu, in the next four hours your tastebuds will be pampered by masterfully prepared and presented specialties. Yet, if you don’t have enough time at your disposal to indulge in fine dining, Atelje also offers 2 and 3-courses lunch menu every day, except Sunday, from 12 until 3 pm.

2. Breg
Breg, also known as “Atelje’s cool younger brother”, is located in the homonymous street, just 5 minutes away from the hotel CUBO. If you want to have a nice dinner next to the Ljubljanica river, search no more, this is the right place for you! Just like the main chef, Jorg Zupan, the place is cool and unique. According to what one of our guests said, the service is amazing, and the octopus is “the best they ever had!” The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 — 23:00, and it is good to reserve a table in advance. Bonus tip: As calories don’t count on vacation, don’t miss to try Breg’s delicious desserts ????

3. JB
The chef Janez Bratož is known as a pioneer of fine dining in Slovenia, who brought innovation and elegance to the culinary scene of Ljubljana. The restaurant that carries the initials of the chef is a family business in which you feel that a lot of attention and love is devoted to each meal. The sophistication is not reflected in the posy interior, but in the well-trained staff and elegantly served meals. Vegetarians and vegans will especially enjoy the delicious vegetables sourced from the chef’s private garden. JB offers guests a la carte menu, 2-3 courses lunch menu (from 12:00-15:00), and 5, 7 and 10- courses dinner menu. Although the restaurant is located in one of Jože Plečnik’s secessionist-style buildings in the vibrant city center, the calm and relaxing interior enables peaceful indulgence in a magical combination of natural tastes. The restaurant is open every day except Sunday, so we recommend you visit JB and see why this Slovenian restaurant has been included in the list of 50 best restaurants in the world.

- Gostilna na Gradu
Just imagine this: you are having dinner at one of Slovenia’s major landmarks. That is exactly what you will experience at Gostilna na Gradu, an amazing restaurant in Ljubljana castle. Romantic ambient, a wide offer which includes both international and traditional dishes from 24 Slovenian gastronomic regions. Fully deserved, Gostilna na Gradu has received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, which praises value for money and ingredients used to prepare specialties in this family-owned restaurant. The guests can enjoy the seasonal menu every day from Monday to Saturday (12:00-18:00). From 18:00 until 22:00 guests can enjoy the 3, 4, 5 or 6-courses tasting menu, which you can check by clicking here. As Sunday evenings are traditionally reserved for the family, the restaurant is open until 17:00. - CUBO Golf restaurant
Finally, if you prefer nature over the city crowd, there is no better place than CUBO golf Smlednik. Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful nature, and delicious food, all that just 20-minutes of car ride from the hotel CUBO. In front of the clubhouse, there is a large free parking, and when you see the ambient you will definitely agree with us that it was worth visiting. Besides the standard offer that you can check by clicking on the link, there are so many different gourmand experiences you can enjoy, both inside the cosy clubhouse and outside.
Our favourite is the picnic at the specially prepared place on the golf course, which represents a really unique experience. The picnic on golf offer includes a basket of goodies and transportation by golf cart to a location specially arranged for this type of occasion, so you can “Enjoy privacy, peace and gourmet pampering”. By clicking on the link, you can check the offer and reserve, but we must say that delicious snacks and peaceful surroundings cannot be explained by words, you have to experience it yourself.
